Edward Nelson Skipworth,
was born in 1916 in Chicago, Illiois, to Vonce DeLeon and Stella Skipworth. He was raised practically as an only child because his sister, his only sibling, was so much older than he. During his childhood and young adulthood, his family became rather prosperous for the times and his life developed accordingly. He traveled abroad, attended Rutgers University for a couple years, and married Frances Irene TenEyck in New York City in 1937. They had two children. His parents, however, lost their meat-packing business near the end of the Depression, which led Edward and Frances to move into her parents' home in New Jersey, where Edward was associated with the Raritan Arsenal and the Dupont Corporation. In the mid-1950s, he separated from his family and moved to Florida, where he died in 1990.

Frances Irene TenEyck,
elder daughter of John and Emma TenEyck, was born in 1908 in Franklin Park, New Jersey, in the house that her father, a well-regarded country doctor, had built several years earlier. This was the house where she would live throughout most of her life. She was a precocious child and most proud of her education. Frances was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa key from the women's division of Rutgers University, which she highly treasured, and then earned a master's degree in history from the University of Chicago. Marrying Edward Nelson Skipworth in 1937, she had two children. The marriage, however, was not long-lasting. She became a librarian at Rutgers University in the early 1950s - enjoying her work with books and with those who did. She lived a very long life, dying in Florida in 2005 at the age of 96 - longer than all of her known ancestors.
